Wassulu DonWritten & Performed by Oumou Sangaré Courtesy of World Circuit Limited, a BMG company. Susannah Grant returns to direct, bringing the script she wrote for Netflix to life in this romantic drama about writers, Morocco and age differences.
As an acclaimed writer who falls for the always gallant Liam Hemsworth, who provides a proper character that we can sympathize with and sometimes identify with
Laura Dern, the lead actress, gives us a nice character that transports us to the talent of the actress, who at this stage of her career can afford to give us even these romantic dramas in which she does not have to play the best role in career, but she makes us fall in love with a love story that fits her like a glove in her most mature stage. The couple is not overwhelmed by full chemistry, but they allow us to confirm their moments of romance and their interesting dialogues, which are the great strength of the film. The story has its highs and lows, but I think it balances out in its final summary, giving us a drama that we have a good time with, without high demands and without high expectations of what it will give us.
It helps a lot that its director knows how to keep the pace going and capture this world of writers looking for inspiration or finding themselves
As is usually the case, it does stock up on some simplistic clichés, but they end up being more of a contribution than a disaster, ultimately benefiting the film’s overall score. It’s a romantic drama that’s good for a couple’s weekend or for those who love the genre, it delivers, has good moments and gives us a story that’s believable. It’s still a film we’ve seen before, with the right score, without any big audacity, with effective dialogues and a romance that will leave everyone happy.
