After years apart, the lovers in love discover that every path they take leads them back together
Synopsis
Local rebellious teenager Clotaire falls in love with his schoolmate Jackie – but gang violence leads him down a darker destructive path. Malik Frikah, who plays the 17-year-old Clotaire in this film, was a world champion breakdancer when he was 10 years old.. One of the characters wears a Rolex Daytona Ceramic in the 1990s, but the watch was not released until 2016..
The first part, with the children, is quite good
Mes MainsMusic by Gilbert Bécaud Lyrics by Pierre Delanoë. The film should have ended there for the sake of the audience. And Gilles Lellouche would direct one of the best French teenage romances of the decade.
The rest of the movie, the second act, is terrible
Actors François Civil and Adèle Exarchopoulos lack common chemistry, their acting in this film is mild and uncompromising. I guess both actors should start to re-evaluate their own careers in French cinema after newcomers Mallory Wanecque and Malik Frikah outshine them and steal the show in this confusingly mediocre film. At first, the film seems to act like a modern version of The Count of Monte Cristo..
A stylish and tacky masculine look
I mean the old story of injustice to a young rebel who returns for revenge and the search for his beloved. However, it turns out to be an exaggerated and caricatured toxic masculinity. And in the middle and at the end of the second act, the plot loses credibility.
Which we have already seen
The problem, aside from the burden of it all, is the film’s strange determination to demand originality in every frame it offers, without ever once achieving it. Every time he has to make a decision, he always chooses the most formal, the most obvious. And so, it is repeated, three hours of the closest thing to a French blockbuster, with good marketing and PR behind it, is what the French audience will see this year.
