“Day of the Jackal”; The action of the novel takes place in 1963
Synopsis
The Jackal is an elusive assassin who makes his living performing hits for the highest fee. He soon meets a determined British intelligence officer who follows him on a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe. and includes an assassination attempt on then French President Charles de Gaulle.
Remake of Day of the Jackal (1973)
The play moves the action to the present era. This spoils the selection of a young black woman as an MI6 officer. I can only assume that the producers wanted some gender and ethnic balance.

But the characters have to be believable, and it’s simply impossible for someone of that age to be such an expert in specialized weaponry. I think either Forsyth or Higgins wrote that if you start a story with a seaplane landing in the Thames near Westminster, the reader won’t believe the rest of the story. It’s a shame, because Redmayne is great, but there was no need to update and change the story to this extent and litter it with woke characters.
It’s just stupid
In light of this, the idea of a black female officer with assets linked to allied paramilitaries in Belfast is so ridiculous that it’s far more than a seaplane moment.
