A ranching family in Montana faces others encroaching on their land
Forrie J. Smith, who plays Lloyd, is a seasoned individual in the rodeo world. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often seems to “forget” his Montana accent and reverts to the SoCal voice he normally uses.

This series has been airing since 2018, but this is the first time I’ve watched any of it. Last night I finished the first episode of the first season, it’s almost 90 minutes long. As for the portrayal of the Dutton family, we see that they have a strong influence in their valley, but are fending off the “attacks.” One of the developers who want to build condos.
The other is from the neighboring indigenous reservation who want to reclaim some of their land and livestock
French To deal with all of this and the massive size of his ranch, Dutton (authentically played by Kevin Costner, in his mid-sixties) has several grown cowboy sons and a helicopter with a dedicated pilot. The reason I watched the first episode of the first season (on Peacock streaming) was to get a feel for the Dutton family, as I’m currently watching all ten episodes of Taylor Sheridan’s newer show, “1883,” which is in some ways the prequel. It was (fictionally) in 1883 when the Dutton family from Tennessee joined a larger group for a wagon train from Fort Worth, Texas, to “somewhere out west.” When they reached Montana, they had to stop.
It’s just not the kind of show I could invest in and continue watching
Again, this is all fiction, but if we look at the men’s ages and the fact that Costner was born in 1955, his character would likely be the great-great-grandson of the Dutton patriarch (played by Tim McGraw) in “1883.” . For example. With sons born around 1875, 1900, 1925 and in the 1950s, Yellowstone is a very good show, the actors are all top notch, the cinematography and sound are excellent.
Now that I’m 70, I prefer to spend my time watching “entertaining” stories
It’s hard to find characters with redeeming qualities and I really don’t like shows that are constantly about arguments and fighting and often murder. NB – 1883 is a very good and interesting show that authentically portrays the great difficulty of uprooting yourself and traveling through unfamiliar territory to find a new life in a new place.
