Kevin Costner is a patriarch who runs a dynastic ranch the size of several countries. Resort developers, tribal rights, and the authority of the Montana state all interfere with his way of life. Reminiscent of Rock Hudson in “Giant,” he tries to hold on to his old ways.
Costner seems to naturally fill the boots of his character
"Yellowstone" moves quickly with little introduction, but its story unfolds at the natural pace of a day in the wilderness, pausing for tribal rituals, cowboy customs, and political intrigue. It’s a far-reaching undertaking that sits at the intersection of law and justice, family, and friendship. He’s a world-weary man who’s seen too much and lied too often.
His heart is in his country and family
He can hear footsteps approaching, but he can only fulfill his role out of habit as much as loyalty. While some of the plot is a bit confusing due to the lack of explanation, it feels natural, as if the viewer is getting a true slice-of-life glimpse into another world. I hope the resolution of this saga includes an emotional payoff that justifies its breadth and attention to detail.
I’m raising my rating to "9"
